The Best French Items at Trader Joe's

I am a longtime fan of Trader Joe’s – the grocery favorite for its affordable price points and inventive products. Some of my very favorite products are those that get their inspiration from or come directly from France. I love that as a Francophile who lives stateside I can get my fix of certain favorites at my local Trader Joe’s.

Having tried the majority of the French inspired offerings the grocer has, today I’m sharing the things that are worth picking up on your next visit.

Mini Croissants

The frozen croissants sold at Trader Joe’s are my very favorite products they sell! These mini croissants are great because they’re so petite and therefore not too indulgent and I love that they can go straight from the freezer to the oven. No overnight proofing required!

Almond Croissants

The almond croissants are such a treat. Leave them out overnight and then bake them in the morning for 20-25 minutes and you’ll be greeted with golden brown, flaky deliciousness.

Pain Au Chocolat

I think the frozen chocolate croissants are the best of all the croissants that Trader Joe’s offers. Similar to the almond croissants, you leave these out overnight to puff up and then cook them for 25 minutes in the morning. You can enjoy a warm, delicious, bakery-quality chocolate croissant from the comfort of your own home.

Boursin Cheese

Trader Joe’s has such an amazing selection of French Cheeses. Favorites of mine? First up: Boursin! My family always, always has Boursin cheese in the house when we’re all together. It’s been a favorite of ours for decades! The best price you’ll find on it is at Trader Joe’s. They also now have a dairy-free version you can also find at the grocery store!

Herbes de Provence Extra Virgin Olive Oil

This olive oil is infused with Herbes de Provence which is an aromatic mixture of dried Provençal herbs and spices, traditionally including thyme, basil, rosemary, tarragon, savory, marjoram, oregano, and bay leaf. Use this with some bread, in cooking or drizzle it over cheese with some honey.

Triple Cream Brie

I adore the triple cream brie from Trader Joe’s. It’s so creamy and delicious. I suggest leaving it out to soften a bit before you enjoy it. The other varietals of brie cheese that Trader Joe’s carries are also worth sampling!

Creme Fraiche

Creme Fraiche is so good to add to sauces when cooking and its a great value when you buy it at Trader Joe’s.

Comté

Comté is a favorite French cheese of mine to add to sandwiches but it is also great on its own when serving a cheese board.

And the next French cheese on my list to try from Trader Joe’s? The Le Delice de Bourgogne! I’ve heard amazing things.

Fleur de Sel

Adding some French sea salt to your dishes can add a ton of seasoning with just a pinch.

French Lemonade

The regular and pink French lemonades from Trader Joe’s are a delight. I like using the regular in Pimm’s Cups at home in the summer and then the pink is so refreshing on a hot summer day.

Brioche Toasts

These are my favorite little toasts to have on hand for cheese boards when I am hostessing.

Sliced French Brioche

Fancy some French Toast for a weekend brunch at home? This sliced brioche is perfect thanks to its thick and fluffy slices.

Dijon Mustard

I cook a lot with Dijon mustard and while I usually have some that I often bring home from Paris, when I am low and or run out – I pick up Trader Joe’s. I also love using the Dijon with a bit of mayo to make a Dijonaise for sandwiches.

Cultured Salted Butter

Oh French butter, how I love thee. I exclusively buy French butter to use at home and the Trader Joe’s cultured salted butter is the most affordable I’ve ever found in the U.S.

Fleur de Sel Caramel Sauce

This salted caramel sauce is divine to drizzle on some vanilla ice cream or to add to a pan of brownies.

French Baguettes

These frozen mini baguettes are so cute and perfectly portioned to add to any meal when you want a baguette fix but won’t eat a whole big baguette. Better yet? They take less than 10 minutes to be ready in the oven!

French Wines

Trader Joe’s French wine selection is small in many stores but worth checking out if you enjoy varietals that France is best known for.

Liquid Hand Soap

The Trader Jacques Savon comes in a few scents per location and is a nice, affordable liquid hand soap and is a formula inspired by the soap makers in the south of France’s Marseille.

. . .

One French item I skip from Trader Joe’s is the frozen French macarons. I know some people really enjoy them but they don’t do it for me. I’d much rather a croissant personally!

Do you shop French foods at Trader Joe’s? Do you have a Trader Jacques favorite? I’d love to hear what it is!

Such a good list! The croissants are just the best (I have to keep them out of my freezer or else I’m constantly treating myself to a weekend pastry, ha!). And you HAVE to try the Le Delice de Bourgogne cheese. Incredible! It’s been hit or miss recently so anytime I see it I snag it for our family dinners.

Terrific suggestions ! I’m Canadian and my closest Trader Joe’s is a 3 hour drive over the border as it’s a US only retail chain, but I love their products. I take a cooler with ice packs to bring home perishables. I’m going to add many of these items to my next shopping run there.
