The term superfat was coined at the 2008 NOLOSE Conference, and has been used by fat liberationists, fat activists, and others as an affirming term for people toward the larger end of the range of fat bodies. In our final Fat Liberation Month 2023 edition of the NAAFA Webinar Series, host Tigress Osborn is joined by content creator Brandon Jerrod, activist Angel Austin, and artist and organizer Max Airborne to discuss superfat visibility and identity. We’ll also discuss how fat community can do a better job of centering the voices, needs, and experiences of superfat and infinifat people.

Angel Austin (she/her) is the Advocacy and Community Leader at ASDAH and creator of Sacred Space for Fat Bodies. She advocates for the most marginalized fat people, (especially Black) superfats and infinifats. She fights to make their voices heard as they are often excluded from participation and representation, even within the framework of fat liberation. She also serves on the board of Body Reborn and Me Little Me Foundation where she shares the benefit of her lived experiences. Brandon Jerrod (they/them) is a writer, photographer, digital content creator, spiritualist, pleasure advocate, and aspiring creative director and sci-fi & fantasy writer who aims to create inclusive, engaging, educational, empowering work that centers those who share their intersections. They specialize in subjects ranging from LGBTQIA, sex, kink, pleasure, fat liberation, music, video games and culture.

Jerrod’s inspirations are artist who are able to reflect the human experience in their art like Beyoncé, Nina Simone, Zora Neale Hurston, Jill Scott, Octavia E. Butler, Dr. Nnedi Okorafor, Honey Dijon, James Baldwin, Kehinde Wiley, Santigold, Shamir Bailey, Cakes Da Killa, Adrienne Maree Brown, and Akwaeke Emezi. Further inspirations also include the countless educators, advocates, thought leaders, content creators, and community members who work to dismantle white supremacy in all its forms.

Max Airborne (ki/kin/kin's/kinself or they/them) is a superfat artist and organizer in the SF Bay Area. Max has been part of many projects over the years, including the organizing collective Fat Rose, the art and zine project Fat Lib Ink, the Fat Liberation Archive, the Power to Live Campaign, the Disability Justice Culture Club, BADD CRIPP, and Fat Girl zine.
